Barbara Jean “Barb” Johnston
August 17, 1949 – December 10, 2025
With heavy hearts, the family of Barbara Jean “Barb” Johnston of Sarnia announces her sudden passing on December 10, 2025. Barb’s death was unexpected, and her absence is deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.
Born on August 17, 1949, Barb was predeceased by her beloved parents, Shirley and Allan Johnston, her sister Margaret Barry, brother David Johnston, sister-in-law Linda Johnston, niece Megan Johnston, and great-nephew Jonathan Robert, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Barb is lovingly remembered by her brother Murray Johnston, sister-in-law Judy Johnston, and brother-in-law Robert Barry (Suzanne), as well as her nieces and nephews: Jody Johnston, Tracy Johnston, Melanie Bouck (Trevor), Rachel Barry, Crystal Barry, Matthew Johnston (Monise), and Alison Johnston (Josh). She was also a devoted great-aunt to five great-nieces and six great-nephews, whom she adored and delighted in spoiling at every opportunity. She was also so excited when she became a great-great Aunt and had more family to dote on.
Affectionately known as “Auntie Ra Ra,” Barb embraced her role in the family with much love and affection— and a watchful eye. She was famously attentive to the safety of her nieces and nephews, always convinced someone was about to fall, trip, or otherwise hurt themselves. Whether issuing a gentle warning, a concerned glance, or a timely “be careful,” her anxious oversight was simply another way she showed how deeply she cared, and it remains a fond and often-smiled-about family memory.
Barb treasured time spent with family above all else, especially Christmas gatherings filled with laughter, traditions, and younger nieces and nephews, which brought her immense joy. She found comfort in quieter pursuits as well, including tending to her garden, curling up with a good book, and dedicating countless hours to researching her family tree.
Barb’s life was defined not by grand gestures, but by steady presence, deep loyalty, and unconditional love. Her passing leaves a profound void, but her warmth, humour, and devotion live on in the many lives she touched.
Donations in Barb’s memory may be made to the March of Dimes, the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton, or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to welcome family and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, between the hours of 10:00 am until the beginning of the memorial service at 12:00 pm.
