"It is with heavy hearts that we share the too-soon passing of Brian Doherty from Big Wreck.
Brian Matthew Doherty fought valiantly against lung cancer for the past 10 months but, sadly, passed away quietly at St. Joseph’s Hospice Sarnia, surrounded by friends and loved ones on the night of Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Brian touched countless people the world ‘round with his musical legacy and his gift for teaching. He is loved by the fans for his masterful contribution to Big Wreck for these past 21 years. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he was a gifted and dedicated teacher, known for his in-depth, nuanced methods and his personal connections with each student. A truly giving and generous heart, Brian would do anything to help someone in need. He was an active member in his local AA Community, pursuing a degree in Music Therapy at McMaster University, and additionally, working to start a Therapeutic Music & Guidance program through Ray of Hope to assist those struggling with addiction. Brian was also a ‘Big Brother’ to a local youth, and spent years of hands-on quality time enriching the young man’s life. Brian will forever be remembered and missed by his dear circle of friends Al, Anita, James, Ken, Mandy, Scott, Tony, and his selfless & steadfast sponsor, Buk; his ex-wife Tina Power and step-sons Jeff Parr and Tom Parr, and little Brother Teshawn. Also survived by his loving mother Joan Doherty, and siblings William, John, James, Anne, and Ed. Brian is pre-deceased by his dear father, Norm Doherty, and stepson Stephen Parr. Resting at the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE where the family will receive friends Saturday June 8th between the hours of 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please bring your favorite story or memory of Brian. A private Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be held in Ohio next week. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to Big Brother Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton.
