Chester John Latawiec (Chet) VE3CFK
With profound sadness the family of Chester Latawiec report his passing at Bluewater Health on February 6, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vera, their three children, Sonja, (Paul Kameka), Dorian (Jessie Robinson) and Jeremy. He will forever be missed by his beautiful grandchildren, Christina McLachlan (Ryan) and Atticus, Winter and Fallon Latawiec. He is predeceased by his parents, Jean and Walter Latawiec of St. Catharines and his parents-in-law, Arthur and Dorothy Payne. Also mourning their loss are his brother Jerry (Karen) and brother-in-law Arthur Payne, niece Jennifer Hendrich (Jason), nephews Arthur and Leonard (Katie) Payne.
Chet was a chemical engineer practicing primarily in process engineering. He started his professional career in Sarnia after graduating from University of Waterloo in 1976. He was employed by Polysar for 13 years then moved into consulting, ultimately with Tecsar Engineering for 20 years.
Chet was an avid amateur radio operator for 58 years. In his earlier years he enjoyed scuba diving and underwater photography. He and Vera also enjoyed cruising and visited over 80 countries in their travels.
The family extend sincere thanks to Dr. Lebert and the Bluewater Health Oncology Unit, Dr. Kim (Palliative Care) and the professionals who provided in home care over the past months. In lieu of flowers donations to the Oncology Clinic or Palliative Care Clinic or charity of choice would be appreciated.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. prior to the beginning of the funeral service at 12:30 pm. The interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
