David Russell Campbell

January 9, 1935 — December 21, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of DAVID (DAVE) RUSSELL CAMPBELL – January 9, 1935 – December 21, 2020. He was predeceased by his father Russell Campbell and his much loved mother Lena Campbell as well as his mother and father in law Meryl and Earl Banting.  Dave is survived by the love of his life and best friend; Norma (Banting); his daughter Stephanie Martin (Duane) and two wonderful grandsons, Matthew and Jacob Martin; his sister Denise Taylor (late Gus McIntyre), brother Paul Campbell (Judy); his sister Nancy McAuley (Larry); his brother Michael Campbell (Helen); and several nieces and nephews. (Dave was very proud of his family and of their extended families’ accomplishments); his late sister-in-law Marion Bronson (late Brian) and brother-in-law Ken Banting (Nancy). He is also survived by special friends Don Hutcheson (late Julie) and their family Donna, Deborah and Bill; and Pat and Ross Willoughby. As a young man Dave was very involved with local fastball and basketball teams. He was a founding member of the Sarnia Basketball Referees Association. Dave was a longtime employee of Imperial Oil and retired after 35 years of service. He joined the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club in 1963 and remained a member all his life. Dave was very proud to have been awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership from the Club in October of 2008. When Dave looked back on his life, he determined that he must be one of the luckiest people he could imagine. He wanted to acknowledge some of these people for their contributions to his great life. The Kohut family and the Pretty family for what they did for Dave at a time when friends were needed, Jim and Deanna Edgar, who left us much too soon, Faye and the late Brian Voisey-soul mates, Ross and the late Barb Dowswell-since high school, the Petrolia friends, Betty and the late Larry Churchill, Pat and the late Tom Traichevich and Bert and Linda Shannon for 50 years plus, golfing buddies over the years. (this would be his regular early morning group). Dave claimed his greatest luck was having his and Norma’s daughter, Stephanie, and her family – Duane and their beloved children Matthew and Jacob in his life. The greatest piece of luck of all, he claimed, was meeting and marrying his lovely Norma who made all the luck possible. Charitable donations made in memory of Dave to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family. Due to the Covid-19 crisis and the current restrictions placed on funeral homes there will be no public services. The arrangements are entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St, Sarnia, ON, N7T 5W9). Memories and messages of condolence may be sent through www.djrobb.on.ca
