Garry Lee McBean

d. February 13, 2023

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Garry Lee McBean announces his passing on, February 11. Born in June of 1937 in Sarnia to James and Janet McBean, Garry was the last surviving member of his family. He was predeceased by brothers Bob and Don, Sisters Mary-Lou, Janet, and Carol-Anne. Garry married Frances Quinn the love of his life in 1958 and led a blessed life with her until her passing in August of 2014. He is survived by his children Gary &Holly McBean, Debbie McBean and life partner Marlene Schofield, James McBean, and Tammy and Greg Crook. Also, a proud Grandfather of 5 grandchildren, Tyler (Jill) and Curtis McBean, Narissa Schofield, Jazlyn and Cassidy Crook and 5 Great grandchildren.

Known by many friends and family as “Bummer”, a nickname assigned to him by his Parents due to his propensity to slide on his derriere before he could walk.

Garry worked most of his life in the Petro Chemical field starting at Dow Chemical and then accepting a role at the CIL Courtright facility eventually rising to lead the Maintenance Operation for the site. Eventually retiring as the site transitioned to a new owner, Garry went on to work with numerous Companies throughout North America as an SAP Consultant.

A proud member of St.Paul’s Church, Garry spent time on the Church Board and was an active volunteer in supporting and maintaining the church.

Garry’s true love was camping and ensured his family would see many amazing places throughout North America with his trailer in tow. An active member of the National Camper and Hikers Association and the local Sarnia club the 4 T’s  he led the family to places far off the beaten path.  As the time went on Garry would travel the world with his love Frances seeing Europe, Alaska and return to many of his favourite destinations in Canada. His Scottish heritage was always drawing him to the sounds of the bagpipes which he loved.

Special mention and Thank-you to Dr. Lori Kolano who assisted Garry through his life, the personnel from Home Instead who spent so many hours making his life special at Derby Lane, the amazing nurses and physio personnel on the 4th and 5th Floor at Bluewater health who made him comfortable in his final 2 weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alzheimer.ca/sarnialambton or Bluewater Health through www.foundation@bluewaterhealth.ca would be appreciated.
