Gerald (Gerry) Nettleton passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health in Sarnia early on Thursday June 19th, 2025. Gerry's family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Bluewater Health for their professionalism and kindness while Gerry was in their care.
Gerry is predeceased by his wife Donna Nettleton (née McKay), his brother and sister-in-law John and Gail Nettleton, brother in-law Don Brooks, and his parents Margery Nettleton (née Porter) and John Nettleton . He is survived by his son David (Ellen Bruce), daughter Julie (Brandon Rawcliffe), grandaughter Mallory (Quentin Lelong) and sister Gail Brooks (née Nettleton). Gerry is fondly remembered by an extended family of nieces, nephews, and both great and great-great nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of friends, work colleagues and neighbours.
Gerry was born in Brantford Ontario in 1938. He often reminisced about his first job after high school working for St. Clair Tobacco where he enjoyed travelling around Lambton County and connecting with people on his delivery rounds. He spent the bulk of his working life at the Polymer petrochemical plant, through its many ownership and name changes, retiring after 31 years. He proudly remembered his work as a boilermaker and blacksmith, and was fortunate to make many close friends while there He continued to go to monthly retiree breakfasts until shortly before he passed away, and his family would like to thank Mr. Dave Marshall for the rides back and forth in Gerry's later years. Gerry continued his interest in blacksmithing after retirement, volunteering as the blacksmith at the Moore Museum for several years. He was also an active member of the Sarnia Optimist's Club for several years.
Gerry enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes. He and Donna were always busy playing cards or heading to a local dance or square dance with friends or family, if they weren't travelling locally or internationally. One of Gerry's favourite trips was an annual pilgrimage to the Indianapolis 500 in a motorhome with a load of others, including good friend Tom McLaughlin. Tom and Anne McLaughlin were frequent travel, dance, and card partners, along with Jack and Janis Paulley, Jerry and Marlene Hicks, Carol and Allan Jaques and Glen and Betty Wagner. He will be missed by all who remain, and welcomed by those who have gone before him.
