Helen Glenda MacNeil-Way (Squires), 78, of Sarnia, Ontario, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 13, 2025. Born on February 12, 1947, in Manuels, Newfoundland, Helen’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion to her family.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard Stanley Way, her parents Lionel and Lenora Squires, her son Stephen Dwayne MacNeil, and sisters Evelyn Brushett, Sylvia Earle and Daphne Tilley. She is lovingly remembered by her children Michael Wayne MacNeil, David Keith MacNeil, and Tammie Marcia Lee Way, her brother Lionel Squires Jr., 16 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Family was everything to Helen, and she took immense joy in her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in fishing trips with her husband, campfires with loved ones, and cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays. An avid bingo and poker player, she also enjoyed word searches, crime shows, and love stories. Helen was a passionate animal lover, supporting the Sarnia & District Humane Society, and found happiness in the company of countless pets and the simple pleasures of people-watching or savoring fries under the Bluewater Bridge.
At Helen’s request, there will be no public memorial service; a private family interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Sarnia Humane Society www.sarniahumanesociety.com
