At Bluewater Health - Sarnia on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, John Hume, aged 74, wrapped up a good long run with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Anne, with whom he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage - an accomplishment he took great pride in, and one Anne deserves at least equal credit for. John was a devoted father to Rebecca and Scott (wife Andrea), and a very proud Papa to Clara and Chloe.
Cherished brother of Ken (Cathy), Don (Barb), Linda (Dennis, d.), and Bill (Debbie) - each of whom shared in the long tradition of Hume-family humour, storytelling, and competitive teasing.
Born in Shelburne, Ontario, John carried its stories with him everywhere he went, editing and improving them over the years like any responsible storyteller. After moving to Sarnia in the late 1970s, he and Anne built a full life surrounded by community. John built a very successful accounting practice here in town while also coaching many kids’ sports, golfing frequently, and maintaining an impressive familiarity with several local pubs, strictly for the purpose of “supporting local businesses.”
John had a deep love for history, travel, and spending summers at the cottage in Port Elgin.
Known interchangeably as John, Dad, Papa, and Bumper, he will be deeply missed. The family invites you to honour his memory with a favourite story and a smile.
A celebration of life will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club. Please drop in for a drink, a laugh, and the kind of easy company he always appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kidney Foundation at https://kidney.ca or a charity of your choice.
The arrangements are entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St, Sarnia, ON, N7T 5W9). Memories and messages of condolence may be sent through www.djrobb.on.ca
