She was a stay-at-home mother for many years returning to work at The Observer when her children were in school full-time. Birdie was a longstanding member of Dunlop Central United Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She and her husband Bill enjoyed camping at the United Church Camp, spending time with grandchildren, watching the grandchildren participate in sports and activities, and making meals for family and friends. Birdie was a woman of great faith, trusting God in all things even the loss of her beautiful daughter Shannon and her devoted son-in-law Bill. She set a wonderful Christian example for her family and friends. Jesus was the source of her strength, her guiding light, and her refuge in times of trouble.
