DE VRIES, JULIUS - Peacefully at Woodstock Hospital, Palliative Care Unit on Monday, November 2, 2020, Jurjen "Julius" DeVries, of Woodstock, in his 88th year. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Durkje "Dianne" (Heslinga) DeVries, his children George DeVries and his wife Marsha, Theresa Ball and her husband Lyle and Linda Robb and her husband Jimmy, grandchildren Terry (Christiane), Katie (Robert) and Brian (Merylyn) and great grandfather to James and Sheila and great Pake to his special girl Everlee. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers-in-law Vern and Albert and sisters-in-law Ellie and Helen (Symon). Omke Jurjen to Alex Nijboer and is wife Klaske and many other family members in Friesland.
Born in Hardegarijp, Friesland on November 17, 1932, Julius immigrated to Canada in 1954 where he married the "love of his life" Dianne, whom he met in Holland. He retired from the Woodstock Police Department after 30 years of service, a job he loved and always shared his stories of working there. Pops was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and his family was everything to him. He was a humble, hardworking, kindhearted and caring man who always carried a smile on his face and was always ready to make you laugh, an inspiration to us all.
Julius' family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to Dr. Vu for the home visits and excellent care throughout the years, Ray Parton for your PSW care, kindness and love, and the nurses and staff of Palliative Care for taking such wonderful care of our Pops.
Cremation has taken place and interment in Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery will be held at a later date. For those wishing, memorial donations to Woodstock Hospital - Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.
