Sarnia

Ken Walker passed away at Sarnia, Ontario on Sunday June 30th 2024, in his 92nd year. He leaves behind his cherished wife Betty. Ken was the beloved father of John (Barbara) of Toronto, Jeffrey (Leah) of Ajax, Avaleen (Eric) of London, and the dearly loved grandpa of Andrew (Rana), Katherine, Jennifer, Sean (Nicolette), Daniel, Nicole (Amalan), Matthew (Rachel), Cainan (Shan) and Lauren (Nikesh). Ken was predeceased in 2015 by his beloved wife and life partner of 58 years, Vivian.

He was born on May 21st 1933 at Point Du Chene, New Brunswick, the only child of John Nelson Walker and Bessie Mae Wallace. He graduated from Moncton High School in 1951 and went on to study Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. While at UNB he enrolled in the University Naval Training Division and was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy in the autumn of 1954. After graduating from UNB in 1955, Ken joined Imperial Oil in Sarnia, where he had a progressive 37-year career. He retired in 1991.

Ken was a remarkable person, a consummate team player, and a gift to his community. He served as a Church Warden, a Hockey Coach, a Scout Leader, and on the executive of the local Profession Engineers of Ontario Chapter. For more than 20 years he was a Sarnia Sting season ticket holder. One of his happiest moments was watching the former Sting Captain, Steven Stamkos, hoist the Stanley Cup for Tampa Bay Lightning even though Ken was a life long Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Ken played in the local seniors’ hockey league until age 72.
