It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our mom, Lorraine Long (née Dingwell). Mom was predeceased by her loving husband and our dad, Stanley Long, in 2025.
Lorraine was born in Port Huron, Michigan, in 1935 to Edward and Myrtle (née James) Dingwell and was predeceased by her brother, Thomas. In her later years, she loved to share memories of growing up on Harker Street in Port Huron with her grandparents, Thomas and Ethel James. Stan and Lorraine met and were married in 1957 and shared a wonderful life together for 67 years in their home and later in a retirement community.
Lorraine and Stan were devoted parents to their four children: Thomas (Leslie Pace), Brenda (Jim McCormack), Brian and Amanda; daughters-in-law, Gwen (Victor) and Yvonne (Shawn); eight grandchildren, Melissa (Ryan Martin), Michael, Joshua, Emily (Matt Lambert), Memphis (John Belay), Veronica, Noah and Jacob; and four great-grandchildren, Clark, Walter, Stella and Audrey.
Mom dedicated many years to raising her children and caring for her grandchildren. There was always a welcoming smile, open arms and an open heart for all of us—and for anyone we brought along when we came home to 362 Elsfield Crescent. The neighbours and neighbourhood children were welcomed and loved by Lorraine as well.
Mom was very talented with sewing and many other crafts and creations, which she was extremely proud of and loved to gift to friends and family. She took a special interest in paper tole and taught many classes to groups of ladies who gathered at the Craft Hut at Eastland Plaza and in the basement of her home. She also loved to line dance with her many friends at the Strangway Centre and enjoyed joining aqua fit classes at the YMCA.
Mom’s love touched many family members and friends, and she will be deeply missed. We are especially grateful to her wonderful friends and caregivers, Rhemie, Pamela, Anthonia, Taiwo Prabh and Sofiat, as well as the caring staff on Emma West at the Village of Tansley Woods in Burlington. She loved and was loved by many.
