Ruth Cheney

RUTH CHENEY, most recently of Fiddick’s Nursing Home, Petrolia died in Sarnia on August 29, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents Annie and Benjamin Tennenhouse, her husband J. David Cheney in 1997, and by her sister Barbara Greco. Ruth leaves her son David Zuger of New York City and his wife Ellen Stoller; her daughter Eileen Zuger of Hawaii; grandchildren Judah, Gabriel and Ryan; and sister Esther Weine of Detroit. She is also survived by her step-children Douglas Cheney and his wife Cheryl of North Carolina and Lorraine Cheney of Sarnia. Mrs. Cheney was born May 2, 1927 in Detroit and came with her husband David to Sarnia in the 1960’s. She retired in 1993 from Lambton College where she had taught English for 19 years. Ruth will be remembered as a creative and resourceful person whose many activities included the University Women’s Club, Sarnia Handweavers and Spinning Guild, Sarnia Quilter’s Guild, and volunteering at The Inn of the Good Shepherd. Cremation has taken place and at her request, there will be no service. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Fiddick’s Nursing Home for their care of Ruth over the years, and to Dr. Maddison and the staff and volunteers of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
