Shirley Joyce Grant (McCabe) passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on April 16, 2026, at the age of 91. Born in Sarnia on August 4, 1934, Shirley lived a life marked by quiet faith, creativity, and devoted care for her family and others.
At her core, Shirley was a gentle and devoted woman. Her Christian faith shaped not only what she believed, but how she lived each day, and how she sought to model that faith to her children. Though naturally shy, she expressed her love through service, creativity, and a steady presence that brought comfort to those around her. She had an easy laugh and a quiet curiosity about the world around her.
Shirley was the beloved wife of 54 years to her late husband, William “Bill” Grant. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, partnership, and family. Whether raising their children or serving together in church and at Camp Kakeka, they worked side by side. Bill would cut out wood pieces, and Shirley would bring them to life with her painting.
She was a loving and devoted mother to William Grant of Ingersoll, Thomas Grant of Brantford, Edward Grant and his wife Ruth of Sarnia, and Douglas Grant and his wife Heather of Waterloo. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joyce, in 2024, and her granddaughter, Trinity, in 2025. Her love extended deeply into the lives of her family, including thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Shirley lived much of her life as a homemaker, yet her influence reached far beyond her home. She had a creative spirit expressed through knitting, embroidery, painting, making stuffed dolls, and baking. Her homemade pies, butter tarts, and peach tarts were shared generously and remembered fondly.
She found joy in simple and meaningful things. She enjoyed listening to Gospel quartet music, watching boats pass under the Bluewater Bridge, caring for her dogs and budgies, and spending time at camp. She served faithfully in church life, including teaching Sunday School, where her quiet care for young people left a lasting impression.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her as creative and thoughtful, gentle yet quietly determined. She cared deeply for her home and family, along with a light sense of humour and familiar sayings that reflected both her personality and her faith.
Her life was anchored in the truth of John 3:16. Her faith was steady and sincere, guiding her through every season and shaping the way she loved others.
Shirley’s legacy is found in a lifetime of quiet faithfulness, in the home she nurtured, the family she loved, and the countless small acts of care that defined her days. Her presence will be deeply missed and gratefully remembered.
