Violet Frances Adlam

VIOLET FRANCES “CAM” ADLAM: It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Violet Frances “Cam” Adlam on Friday, March 24th, 2017 at Bluewater Health in Sarnia at the age of 101 years. She was the loving wife of the late Ernest Maxted “Ted” Adlam (1990) and dear mother of Maxted Adlam and his wife Sandra of Sarnia, David Adlam and his wife Violet of South Houston, Texas. Grandmother of: Karen, Kristen, Deborah, Christopher and Timothy. Great-grandmother of: Amber, Brandon, Brinley, Britton, Max and Sam. She was predeceased by her parents Catherine Campbell and Horace Wyndham Rodda, her son Max (2016) and his wife Sandy (2015). Her mother’s ill health forced her to place Violet into an adoptive family until she reached her early teens. Her father, Mr. Rodda, a member of the State Staff of the Royal Household, helped her obtain a position at Buckingham Palace. She delighted in relating how she sat on the king’s throne when no one was looking. In 1949 she emigrated from England on the liner RMS Aquitania, shepherding her two boys to Canada where she met up with her husband who had arrived earlier. She was a fixture for years at the Village Variety store in Point Edward and was well-known and well-loved by the community. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday, March 30th, between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on Friday, March 31st, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Cremation will follow and interment will be held later at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Red Cross Society would be appreciated by the family.
