William (Bob) Robert Thompson

THOMPSON, WILLIAM ROBERT (Bob)– Age 95 (Born July 25, 1923 )Passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital Veterans Centre on November 1, 2018.  He was the dear husband of the late Dorothy Jean Goodall (d. December 2009) and loving father of Barbara Jane Dorian (Paul Garfinkel) and Jan Elizabeth Reddon (John Reddon) , grandfather of Lindsay Dorian, Adam Reddon (Natalia) Benjamin Reddon and the late Amy Reddon.   Bob is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sisters- Winnifred Rosebush, Betty Cares, Marie Molson and Amy Sloan and his late life companions Mary Legate and June Rand.

Bob’s life was characterized by service to others, compassion, duty and loyalty. He served in the Canadian Air Force as a navigator and flew many missions in World War II. He proudly participated in annual Remembrance Day services until he was 90. It was vital to him to recognize all who served and their loved ones. He studied chemistry at Queens following the war and returned to Sarnia where he worked until well into his 70s, in research for Imperial Oil. Bob was active in St. Giles Church throughout his life and was a long time member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club.  He was a devoted father and grandfather. Always the gentleman, Bob loved his community, other people, travel and his favorite treat-ice cream.  He will be remembered for his ready smile, his kind and generous spirit, and his sincere gratitude for all the gifts his life had given him.

The family would like to extend their special appreciation for the caring staff from Home Instead and Sunnybrook Veterans’ Hospital for their dedicated care in Bob’s last years.

A funeral service will be held at D. J. Robb Funeral Home & CREMATION CENTRE, LTD.(102 N. Victoria Street, Sarnia) on Tuesday, November 6th at 11:00 am. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service time. Memorial donations may be made to Sunnybrook Foundation, Veterans Centre, 2075 Bayview Ave, Toronto ON M4N 3M5 or Sunnybrook.ca.
