At Vision Nursing Home, on May 16, 2021, William George Wighton peacefully passed away in his 95th year.Dad was born on December 25, 1926. As a young boy he raised chickens and rabbits to help support his family. At age 16 he began a fill-time career at Imperial Oil, proudly working for this “great company” for 40 years. Dad was married to the love of his life, Helen, for 64 years, raising 8 wonderful children. He was a founding member of St. Benedict Church, a creative wood-worker with Strangway Centre, an avid gardener, a graceful dancer, and a wonderful story teller.Bill was the proud father of Dan (Janice), Jim (Moia), Bob, Debbie (Ron Raes), the late Greg (Margaret), Mark (Mary Anne), David (Joe Chetcuti), and Mary Beth (Dawn Baxter) and extremely proud grandfather of 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He considered himself a fortunate man.Bill is also survived by brother Don (Norma), in-laws Ron (Mary) Moran. Predeceased by his beautiful wife, Helen (2015), his parents Sandy and Bessie, brother Alex, son Gregory (2010), twins sons Peter and Paul (1964) and grandson Dustin (1984).Dad moved to Vision to be with and care for Helen and happily lived there for 9 years. Over time, dementia transformed our Dad but we all remember the sweet, gentle soul that he was, always willing to converse with everyone he met. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kathleen Gannon and the many caregivers at Vision Rest and Nursing Home for the patient, loving care they bestowed on our father. A special thank you to Bill’s primary care physician Dr. Lori Kolano.Due to Covid 19 restriction, a private funeral service will be held at the D.J. Robb Funeral Home.
